This specimen was lot 29672 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[2] noted, "Republic Franc 1850-BB (Bee Privy) MS62 PCGS, Strasbourg mint, Two-year type. Slate gray with antique gold and blue highlights over golden surfaces. Featuring the Bee privy mark, the rarer of two for the date, and very rarely seen in Mint State." This coin is an issue of the short-lived Second Republic of [[France]] (1848-52). It is known from three mints: Paris (mintmark "A", the vast majority), Bordeaux (mintmark "K", rare) and Strasbourg (mintmark "BB", scarce). The type is slightly difficult to find but is expensive in high grade. Oudiné's bust of Ceres was revived under the Third Republic and used on the 2 francs 1870-95. All two francs issued prior to 1859, including this one, were demonetized in 1869 to make way for the succeeding issue which was only .835 fine.
