This specimen was lot 475 in Sincona sale 69 (Zurich, May 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''FRANKREICH. Louis Philippe, 1830-1848. 2 Francs 1847 K, Bordeaux. Selten. Nur 6'504 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich-FDC. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung.'' (kingdom of [[France]], Louis Philippe, 1830-48, two francs of 1847 Bordeaux mint. Rare. Only 6'504 pieces struck, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Extraordinary condition.)"</blockquote> This type was struck during the reign of Louis Philippe of France (1830-48) from numerous mints. The specimen shown is from Bordeaux and is scarce. It is one of the few dates at all available in high grade. Many issues of this type are known from a handful (<10) of examples. The type is not difficult to find but is expensive in high grade. All two francs issued prior to 1859, including this one, were demonetized in 1869 to make way for the succeeding issue which was only .835 fine. ''Le Franc 10''[2] prices this date nearly triple the common 1847-A but notes a number of high grade examples, likely because of a dispersed roll.
