This specimen was lot 823 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $216. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[France|FRANCE]]: Louis XVI, 1774-1790, AR 1/5 écu (24 sols), Bayonne, 1775-L, toned, rare date/mintmark, PCGS graded AU58." This coin, called a ''cinquième d'écu au bandeau'', was the [[France|French]] equivalent of a twenty cent piece. This type was struck 1775-90 from numerous mints in the final years of the ''ancien régime''. This is a fairly common date.

''Recorded mintage'': 16,976.

''Specifications'': silver, 11 deniers (.917 fine), 41.5 pieces to the mark (5.83 g), face value 24 sols, 26-27 mm diameter. Engraved by Benjamin Duvivier.
