Coinage was initiated for the [[Fiji Islands]] in 1934, the year after [[New Zealand]]. Altho mintages were small, enough were saved that most dates are common today. The proofs, however, are rare. The San Francisco mint issued this denomination 1942-43. Many were saved by the American soldiers stationed in Fiji. The pre-war issue (KM 11, 1938-41) was only .500 fine. The next sixpence was KM 19 of Elizabeth II, copper-nickel, 1953-67. The sterling coinage ceased in 1968.
