The first specimen was lot 12 in Sincona sale 5 (Zurich, May 2012), where it sold for 10,500 CHF (about US$12,920 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''ITALIEN Königreich Victor Emanuel II. 1859-1861-1878. 10 Lire 1860, Bologna, für die Provinzen in Emilia. Av. VITTORIO – EMANUELE II Bärtiger Kopf des Königs nach links, unten 1860. Rv. REGIE PROVINCIE DELL‘ EMILIA Wertangabe in einem Lorbeerkranz, darunter das Münzzeichen „B“ für Bologna. Sehr selten, nur 1145 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich.'' (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Victor Emanuel II, 1849-78, ten lire of 1860, Bologna mint, for the province of Emilia. By the end of 1860, all of Italy was under his sway except for the Papal States (annexed 1870) and Venetia (annexed 1866). Bologna was formerly a branch mint for the pope and Emilia is the portion of the Papal States directly east of Modena. As Emilia never really had an independent existence, we have filed this under [[Italy, Sardinia|Sardinia]] and the [[Vatican|Papal States]] altho it is neither.
