This specimen was lot 2027 in Sincona sale 77 (Zurich, May 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''BALTIC STATES | Elbing | Städtische Münzstätte unter Schweden. Karl X. Gustav, 1654-1660. Taler 1658, Elbing. Von grösster Seltenheit. Einziges bekanntes Exemplar im Handel. Sehr schön. Felder und Rand überarbeitet.'' (Baltic States, city of Elbing, under Swedish rule, Charles X Gustavus, 1654-60, thaler of 1658, Elbing mint. Of the highest rarity. The only known specimen to date in private hands, Very fine, Fields and edge tooled.)"</blockquote> Elbing in Baroque times was not part of the Baltic States, being in Poland. [[Sweden|Swedish]] armies made several attempts to conquer [[Poland]] after the Thirty Years War and Elbing fell under Swedish occupation. This thaler was struck during one of those periods. The same dies were used to strike a ten ducat piece (KM 80), also very rare.
