The coin shown is a silver twenty para from the reign of Sultan Abdul Mejid. It was struck at the Cairo Mint. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan, with the denomination written below (abbreviated as the letter P for para) with the number twenty above. A crude floral design sits right of the toughra. The reverse carries the ascension date and the text ''minted in Misr'' (''Misr'' is Arabic for [[Egypt]]). The date is written as AH 1255 year 23, which translates to about 1860 AD. Uslu<sup>[1]</sup> lists this year as rare.

This example was part of lot 13248 and sold on Sept 9, 2004 at the 2004 September (HWCA) Signature Sale #357 for $333.50. The catalog description reads: "Abdul Mejid 20 Para 1255AH, KM227, a choice date collection including the following: Year 1 XF, 4 AU, 7 XF, 11 AU, darkly toned XF, 20 AU and 23 AU-UNC. Very scarce grades for this small silver type. Sold as is, no returns lot. From the Lake Pearl Middle Eastern Collection."
