The coin shown is a copper five para from the reign of Sultan Mahmud II. It was struck at the Cairo Mint. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan. The reverse carries the ascension date and the text ''minted in Misr'' (Misr is Arabic for [[Egypt]]). The date is written as AH 1223 year 30, which translates to about 1836 AD.

The specimen shown was part of lot 13211 in Heritage Sale #357 (Long Beach, September 2004), where the group sold for $126.50. The catalog description reads "Mahmud II Copper 5 Para 1223AH, a nice selection featuring: KM167 Year 29 (3), VF and two VF-XF, KM168.2 Year 29 Fine, and KM169, Year 29 Fine, 30 Fine, 31 VF-XF and 32 VF+. From the Lake Pearl Middle Eastern Collection."
