This specimen was lot 74374 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $129. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Egypt|EGYPT]]. 5 Piastres, AH 1376/1957. Cairo Mint. NGC MS-66." In 1953 the monarchy was ousted by a junta of army officers and the first republic established. After the initial euphoria, the junta, its support waning, decided to participate in the Arab attack on Israel of 1956. This resulted in ignominious defeat and only American intervention saved the regime. This type was struck 1956-57 and was one of the last silver coins struck for circulation in Egypt. It is now scarce.<br />
