This specimen was lot 70304 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "[[Mexico|MEXICO]]. Durango. 1/4 Real, 1858. PCGS Genuine--Excessive Corrosion, Fine Details. A RARE one-year type. Exhibiting circulation wear, corrosion, and a planchet flaw, this copper Quartilla is exemplary of the crude state of copper coinage during the tumultuous years of the Reform War. This piece still retains satisfying detail and is elevated by its even brown patina. A tempting offering of this elusive type." This rare type is not priced in the SCWC. Another quarter real of 1858, [[Durango 1858 1/4 real KM-347|KM 347]], has a more conventional eagle obverse/cap and ray reverse. It was probably issued by a different faction.
