This specimen was lot 1657 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "NETHERLANDS (United), [[Netherlands, Deventer|Deventer]], 6 stuivers (rijderschelling), 1689. KM-78. Rare type from this wreck (first of this date that we have offered), mildly corroded with slight bend and some scratches on both sides though with bold legends. Pedigreed to the Steve Valentine Collection, with original certificate from the salvor/conservator. Recovered from ''Merestein'', sunk in 1702 off South Africa." The municipal mints' habit of coining to short weight and short alloy infuriated the Estates General, which spent most of the seventeenth century on a campaign to close them all. This type was struck 1683-91 in substantial quantities. It was among the last issues before this municipal mint was closed.
