This specimen was lot 5646 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €4,000 (about US$5,169 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''NIEDERLANDE, DEVENTER, Stadt. 1/2 Löwentalerklippe 1640. Von größter Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, winz. Kratzer im Feld der Rückseite, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Sammlung Coenen. Exemplar der Auktion Laurens Schulman 28, Hilversum 2002, Nr. 641.'' (Netherlands, city of [[Netherlands, Deventer|Deventer]], klippe lion half daalder of 1640. Extremely rare, handsome patina, scatches in the reverse field, very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> The regular half daalder (KM 40) is not a common coin but the klippe format shown here is very rare. After decades of complaints, the States General managed to close all the municipal mints by the end of the seventeenth century, citing constant fraud in weight and fineness of their products.
