This specimen was lot 68 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €100 (about US$142 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Denmark]] - 12 Skilling 1623, Silver, CHRISTIAN IV 1588-1648 Crowned monogram over value. Rev. Crowned coat of arms. Very fine." This type was struck 1623-24. The oval shape suggests that roller dies were used. Throughout the sixteenth century, one speciedaler was 96 skilling; at some point in the 1620's, it was raised to 144 skilling. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but not particularly successful reign. Denmark lost the Torstenson War and had to cede Jämtland, Härjedalen, Idre, Särna, the Baltic Sea islands of Gotland and Ösel, and the province of Halland.
