The years 1811-1819 were the first years of liberation during the struggle for independence from Spain. The first republican coinage was issued during this period of 'La Patria Boba', except for the interval 1817-1818, when Royalists took brief control. The Republic of Colombia had not yet been created, thus the region was considered a unification of provinces. Shown is a 1813 silver one real, issued for 'Nueva Granada.Cundinamarca'. It was lot 16605 and sold on June 2, 2006 for $2,990 at the 2006 (World Coins) June Long Beach Signature Auction #410. The catalog description reads: "Cundinamarca Real 1813-JF, MS63 NGC, an incredibly bold, lightly toned example with immediate eye appeal. Considering the normally anticipated condition for this type, this coin represents one of the most remarkable grades in the entire collection. The details in the legends, Indian and pomegranate are sharply defined and there are no planchet flaws. Possibly the finest known."<br />
