Neighboring Nicaragua, under the earnest if incompetent Sandinista regime, managed to feature the rebel general Augusto Sandino on its [[Nicaragua 1980 cordoba|coins]] of the 1980's. This type was struck 1983-93 and is accompanied by one, two, [[Costa Rica 1985 10 colones|ten]] and [[Costa Rica 1985 20 colones|twenty colones]] issues.
