This specimen was lot 23441 in Heritage sale 61343 (Dallas, TX, November 2023), where it sold for $504. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Costa Rica]]. Republic gold 2 Colones 1921-(P) MS63 PCGS, Philadelphia mint. The most challenging date in the series with a mere 3,000 minted. Aesthetically pleasing and technically sound. None finer at PCGS." This type was struck for [[Costa Rica]] in 1897, 1900 and 1915-26. A similar design featuring the bust of Christopher Columbus appeared on the gold five, [[Costa Rica 1900 10 colones|ten]] and [[Costa Rica 1899 20 colones|twenty]] colones, all of which are much scarcer than the denomination shown here. Costa Rica officially switched from the ''peso'' to the ''colon'' in 1897, which currency was reformed again in 1917 and 1920.
