This specimen is one of a type struck 1885-86 at the Bogotá mint. It is about the size of a dime. This coin is listed very cheaply in the SCWC but, like many minors from [[Colombia]], does not turn up that often, especially in nice condition. Note the bold 1884/3 overdate (about the only thing bold on the coin). There is a similar design ([[Colombia 1884-B 10 centavos|KM 175.1]]) from Bogotá than is much more common. The second specimen was lot 44414 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $50. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "COLOMBIA. 10 Centavos, 1885. Medellin Mint. AU-53 (PCGS). Interesting type with 0.500/0.835 fineness boldly overstruck in legend. Some strike weakness in centers but nicely toned. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins."

The country adopted its current name, "Republica de Colombia," in 1886. Ten centavos coins from the 1890's (KM 188) are .666 fine silver.
