The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Republica de Nueva Granada. 1830-1859. Proof CU 1/20 Real. Bogotá mint. Dated 1847. In NGC encapsulation graded Proof 65 BN. Beautifully toned light chocolate brown with absolute perfect surfaces. An absolute gem in Proof with none graded higher. Purchased from Coin Galleries of Beverly Hills, June 1970. This issue marks the beginning of Colombia’s long transition from a fractional real coinage to a decimal Decimo coinage. Scattered issues of reales were struck until the 1880s." The specimen shown is a half decimo de real from 1847-48, one of [[Colombia]]'s first attempts to issue copper coins since the emergency issues of the 1820's. They were minted in London and had a face value of one-half centavo of a peso. It was not a success, as no further base metal coins were issued until the 1870's.
