This specimen was lot 11292 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "COLOMBIA. 1816-JF-P 8 Escudos. Popayán mint. Ferdinand VII (1808-1833). AU-53 (PCGS). Good luster remains on nicely toned surfaces. Well struck, but a few subtle vertical adjustment marks are seen on the left side of the reverse. Pleasing for the grade with just a few little marks on the left obverse field. The portrait punch for this obverse shows somewhat amateur strengthening at the collar line, adding interest to this fascinating and variety-filled late Popayán date. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From Mish International, December 1984." Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era. Assayer JR is recorded for 1792-1816.
