This specimen was lot 11278 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "COLOMBIA. 1812-JF 8 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Ferdinand VII (1808-1833). MS-63 (PCGS). Lustrous and attractive, with even light yellow gold surfaces and nice frost. A little soft at the very center of the shield, otherwise sharp and appealing. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From Hans M.F. Schulman, October 1969." Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era. Assayer JF is recorded for 1808-1820.
