This specimen was lot 1950 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,505 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''KÖLN, ERZBISTUM, Adolf III. von Schauenburg, 1547-1556. Goldgulden 1549, Münzstätte vermutlich Deutz. GOLD. R Sehr schön.'' ''Adolf III. von Schauenburg war der dritte Sohn des Grafen Jobst von Holstein und Schaumburg-Pinneberg sowie Maria von Nassau-Dillenburg. Adolf studierte in Löwen und erhielt 1528 den Status eines Domherrn in Lüttich, 1533 wurde er zum Propst ernannt. In Köln und Mainz war Adolf seit 1529 Domherr. 1529–1533 nahm er das Amt des Dechanten und 1533 das des Propstes von St. Gereon in Köln wahr. Im Jahr 1533 dann wurde er von Hermann V. von Wied zum Koadjutor des Kölner Erzbistums ernannt, was ihm das Recht auf die Nachfolge eröffnete. Im Streit mit den Reformationsbestrebungen Hermanns blieb Adolf auf der katholischen Seite.
