This specimen was lot 863 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Chile|CHILE]], Santiago, 1 peso, 1925, medallic axis, NGC MS 66 (Colección Val y Mexía Label), "top pop." Bright white with luster, no marks, very minor surface flaws, currently tied with one other for finest in NGC census. Pedigreed to the Val y Mexia Collection." This type was struck 1924-25 and is one of several types of billon pesos struck in the early twentieth century as the value of the peso inexorably shriveled. Oscar Roty's defiant condor, first used in 1895, appeared on virtually all Chilean silver and copper-nickel coins until 1940.
