This specimen was lot 3064 in Sincona sale 3 (Zurich, October 2011), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$665 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "JUSTINIANUS I, 527-565 Fractions Semissis 527/552. Obv. D N IVSTINI – ANVS PP AVG Draped, cuirassed bust with diadem to r. Rev. VICTORIA AVGGG Victory seated to r. on shield, inscribing numerals on shield resting on knee. Right headed Staurogramcross on r. Star on l. CONOB in exergue. DOC 17. MIBE 17. S. 143. 2,18 g. Broad planchet. Good very fine. Ex Auction F. R. Künker 158 Osnabrück. September 28, 2009. Lot 621." The second specimen was lot 29297 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $381.88. The catalog description[2] noted, "Justinian I the Great (AD 527-565). AV semissis (18 mm, 2.23 g, 6h axis). Constantinople. D N IVSTINI-ANVS P P AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Justinian right / VICTORIA AVCCC, Victory seated right, inscribing shield set on knee; star to left, staurogram to lower right; CONOB in exergue.
