This specimen was lot 73243 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $288. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|GERMANY]]. [[German States, Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel|Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick]]. 24 Mariengroschen, 1695. Zellerfeld Mint. Rudolph August & Anton Ulrich. PCGS AU-55. Residing at the cusp of Mint State status, this charming exemplar yields a tone that is composed mostly of burnt sienna, amber, and rather intense goldenrod, all set upon a backdrop of gunmetal gray. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This issue of 1685-1704 was the fourth 24 mariengroschen for this state. Equal to two-thirds thaler, it was struck steadily until 1834. No mintmaster appears on this coin. The wild man is the most common design but a few were issued with the leaping stallion reverse ([[Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1692-HCH 24 mariengroschen KM-586|KM 586]], 615, 868, 895, 1012, 1033).
