In 1942, during the presidency of Getulio Vargas, the réis was dropped as a unit of currency after 400 years and the cruziero adopted. To mark the occasion, all new coins were released. This type was struck 1970 and 1975. It is worthless in all grades. It is a unit of the second cruziero of 1967-86 (= 1,000 first cruzieros = 1,000 milréis). Brazil endured currency reforms in 1942, 1967, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1994.
