This specimen was lot 25223 in Heritage sale 61382 (Dallas, March 2024), where it sold for $468. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Brazil]]: Republic 500 Reis 1912 XF40 NGC. Bust left variety. With only two examples of the type certified by NGC, this elusive offering is bested by a sole piece." Shown is a 500 réis of the United States of [[Brazil]], of a type struck 1906-08, 1911-12. It was accompanied by similar [[Brazil 1911 1000 reis|1000 réis]] and [[Brazil 1911 2000 reis|2000 réis]]. The head right type ([[Brazil 1912 500 reis KM-509|KM 509]]) was also struck in 1912 and is much more common. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year. This example realized nearly six times the catalog value.
