This specimen was part of lot 25229 in Heritage sale 61382 (Dallas, March 2024), which sold for $180. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Brazil]]: Republic Pair of Certified bronze 20 Reis NGC, 1) 1900 - MS63 Brown; 2) "Medallic Alignment" 1889 - UNC Details (Altered Color), Rio de Janeiro mint." Shown is a copper twenty réis of the United States of [[Brazil]], struck 1889-1912. It is accompanied by a similar forty réis ([[Brazil 1901 40 reis|KM 491]]). It is catalogued as a fairly common date. The twenty réis, a descendant of the [[Brazil 1822-R 20 reis|twenty réis of colonial times]], ceased production after 1912 and was replaced in 1918 by a [[Brazil 1918 20 reis|copper-nickel twenty réis]].
