This specimen was lot 23087 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $23,500. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Pedro I gold 4000 Reis 1826-B, AU Details - Tooled NGC. A desirable three-year Bahia mint issue, with all dates classifying as rare, but the present date being the most desirable, and the least frequently encountered of the three. A search of named Latin American sales of the past two decades further solidifies the date as extremely elusive, with only the Norweb collection, sold by Spink America in 1997, containing an example." This type was struck at Rio and Bahia 1823-28 as well as a larger 6400 réis (KM 370).
