This specimen was lot 23157 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Pedro II 640 Reis 1699, horizontal reverse die rotation 90 degrees, very scarce variety. VF-XF Details, surfaces pitted from oxidation. From The Santana Collection of 640 Reis." The Lisbon mint struck this type in several varieties 1699-1700. Rotated reverses are rare in [[Brazil]]ian coinage and garner large premiums.
