This specimen was lot 794 in Jean Elsen sale 121 (Brussels, June 2014), where it sold for €7,000 (about US$11,212 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''BRABANT, Duché, Philippe II (1555-1598), restauré, AR daldre frappé en poids fort, s.d. (après 1586), sans différent d'atelier (Anvers). Droit: B. couronné et cuirassé à droite, portant le bijou de la Toison d'or. Revers: Grand écu couronné, avec écusson de Portugal en surtout, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Provient de la collection Prince de Ligne, vente Sotheby, Londres, 26 juin 1968, 253. Très Rare. Le droit légèrement poli. Petits défauts du flan au revers. Très Beau à Superbe.'' (duchy of Brabant, Philip II restored, silver daalder, piefort, without date (after 1586), without mintmark but Antwerp mint. Obverse: crowned and armored bust to right, wearing the Golden Fleece. Reverse: large crowned arms, surcharged with the arms of Portugal, with the Order of the Golden Fleece around. From the collection of the prince of Ligne, sold by Sotheby's, London, June 1968, lot 253. Very rare, obverse lightly polished, planchet flaws on reverse, very fine to extremely fine.)

''Habile diplomate et chef de guerre, Alexandre Farnèse parvint à exploiter les dissensions des révoltés pour traiter avec les provinces catholiques puis pour reconquérir le Brabant et la Flandre. La prise d'Anvers, en 1585, après un siège de plus d'un an, marqua le complet rétablissement de l'autorité espagnole dans les Pays-Bas méridionaux. Seule la ville d'Ostende refusa de se soumettre. Le duc de Parme ordonna aussitôt de reprendre à Anvers l'émission du numéraire de Philippe II, principalement l'écu Philippe et ses subdivisions. Quelques monnaies d'or furent aussi frappées ainsi que de spectaculaires piéforts en argent au buste couronné.''
