This specimen was lot 638 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,680 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Bavaria, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Maximilian II. 1848-1864. Vereinsdoppeltaler 1849. Standbild von Roland de Latre, genannt Orlando di Lasso. Mit Randschrift: * VEREINSMÜNZE * VII EINE F. MARK. R Attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, kl. Randfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' (kingdom of Bavaria, Maximilian II, 1848-64, double union thaler of 1849, on the statue of Roland de Latre, known as Orlando di Lasso, with edge lettering. Attractive example with nice patina, light edge defects, very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> This thaler, issued to commemorate the erection of a statue to composer Orlando di Lasso (c.1530-1594), is rare. It comes in two varieties of edge lettering.
