This specimen was lot 3295 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €340 (about US$439 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''BASEL Stadt. Goldgulden o. J. (1433-1437), mit Titel Sigismunds als Kaiser. GOLD. Min. Schrötlingsfehler im Rand, sehr schön.'' (city of Basel, undated gold gulden in the name of Sigismund as emperor. Small edge cracks, very fine.)"</blockquote> Altho the Swiss cantons had won de facto independence from the Empire by the late fifteenth century, the fact was not officially recognized until 1648, when the confederation left the empire by the treaties of Westphalia which ended the Thirty Years War. This type is fairly common for a late medieval gold coin.
