The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''ESPAGNE, Charles III, prétendant (1700-1714), AR 2 reales, 1714 (sur 1713), Barcelone. D/ Écu couronné. R/ Monogramme couronné. Très rare. Très Beau.'' (kingdom of [[Spain]]m, pretender Charles III, 1700-14, silver two reales of 1714, Barcelona mint, 1714/3 overdate. Obverse: crowned arms; reverse: crowned monogram. Very rare, Very Fine.)"</blockquote> This type was issued in [[Coinage of Catalonia|Barcelona]] 1707-14 on behalf of the Austrian archduke Charles, who as Charles III contended unsuccessfully with Philip V for the throne of [[Spain]].
