This specimen was lot 1686 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €7,000 (about US$9,435 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Franz Josef I. 1848-1916. Konv.-Taler 1851, A, Wien. RR Prachtexemplar. Erstabschlag. Feine Patina, fast Stempelglanz. Es gibt von den Talern mit dem linksgewandten Porträt Franz Josefs jeweils 10 Stück mit den Jahreszahlen 1848, 1849, 1850, 1851. Bei den Talern mit der Jahreszahl 1852 fehlt das Wort "Dalmatia" in der Umschrift. Auch von diesem Jahrgang gibt es nur 10 Stück. Diese Münzen wurden alle im Jahre 1852 geprägt, kamen nie in Umlauf und sind Probeprägungen. Die Darstellung seines Porträts mit dem Gesicht nach links mißfiel Kaiser Franz Josef. Darum wurde dieser Typ nicht weiter geprägt. Die hergestellten 50 Stück wurden, wie Vogelhuber angibt, an öffentliche Münzkabinette und Anstalten, sowie an hohe Persönlichkeiten abgegeben. Auch Kaiser Franz Josef selbst hat möglicherweise Exemplare erhalten. Daher ist es denkbar, daß das vorliegende Stück durch die Hand Kaiser Franz Josefs gegangen ist.'' These coins were all minted in the year 1852, never circulated and are patterns. The portrait with the face to the left displeased Emperor Franz Josef, causing this type to be abandoned. As stated by Vogelhuber, the produced 50 pieces were distributed to public museums and institutions as well as to important persons. Emperor Franz Josef himself may have received copies.
