This specimen was lot 3556 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''STADT Dukat 1742, mit Titel Karls VII. (Karl Albert von Bayern). Sitzende Augusta mit Mauerkrone, in der Rechten den Stadtpyr, in der Linken Freiheitsstab//Geharnischtes Brustbild Karls VII. r. mit Lorbeerkranz. GOLD. Min. gewellt, vorzüglich.'' ([[Germany]], city of Augsburg, ducat of 1742, in the name of Charles VII (Charles Albert of Bavaria). Obverse: seated figure with pine cone, staff in left hand; reverse: armored, laureate bust of Charles VII. Bent, extremely fine.)"</blockquote> The city of Augsburg only issued ducats on special occasions and consequently they are quite scarce. This one honored Karl Albert during his brief tenure as emperor, for which the Austrians invaded, occupied and devastated [[German States, Bavaria|Bavaria]]. He surrendered his title and received Bavaria back and Francis of Lorraine was crowned emperor.
