The first specimen was lot 1282 in Jean Elsen sale 118 (Brussels, September 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''RUSSIE, Guerre civile, Cu 3 roubles, 1918, Armavir (Caucase). 1e émission (31 mm). Rare. Superbe'' (Russia, Civil war, copper three rubles of 1918, Armavir mint, first issue. Rare, extremely fine.)"</blockquote> The second specimen was lot 1014 in Sincona sale 19 (Zurich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 800 (about US$1,003 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "3 Roubles 1918, I3. Rare. Good very fine." This scarce and enigmatic issue was minted in by the Whites in their losing struggle against the Communists after World War One. Armavir is in the Russian Caucasus east of the Black Sea. One and five rubles also exist.
