This type was struck in 1953-74 for the Portuguese colony of [[Angola]] on the west coast of Africa south of the Congo. Six dates exist from that period, none rare. After a protracted struggle, Angola obtained its independence in 1975 and then dissolved into civil war as various factions contended for control.
