This type was struck 1927 only for the Portuguese colony of [[Angola]] on the west coast of Africa south of the Congo. It was accompanied by a copper-nickel [[Angola 1927 10 centavos|ten centavos (KM 67)]], twenty centavos (KM 68) and [[Angola 1927 50 centavos|fifty centavos (KM 69)]]. After a protracted struggle, Angola obtained its independence in 1975 and then dissolved into civil war as various factions contended for control.
