St. Kitts & Nevis (1801) 1-1/2 pence
The first specimen was lot 1309 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2018), where it sold for $1,666. The catalog description[1] noted, "Nevis, three halfpence, ca. 1801, NEVIS countermark on reverse of a French colonial copper crowned-C stampee (ca. 1763), rare. Choice bold countermark (XF), the host nearly slick (Poor) but with crowned-C on other side still clear, slightly wrinkled near edge." The second specimen was lot 2447 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[2] noted, "NEVIS. Nevis - French Guiana (Cayenne). Black Dog (Three Half Pence), ND (ca. 1801). PCGS AU-50; Countermark: AU Details. Countermarked "NEVIS" with rectangle border within shaped border applied to the obverse of a 1789-A French Guiana (Colony of Cayenne) 2 Sous. The countermark is boldly applied to a nicely preserved host with plenty of remaining detail. The surfaces are smooth exhibiting light signs of handling displaying lovely rich chocolate brown patina. This highly attractive survivor is far superior to that normally encountered, making it destined to catch the attention of the quality conscious specialist." The SCWC says 72 black dogs = 1 dollar. Since this is unlisted, we don't know what the catalog says it is worth.
