Chekiang (or Zhejiang) is a densely populated, coastal province immediately south of Shanghai. The first Chekiang mint was located in the capital Hangchow. It opened in 1896 but closed by the turn of the century. Other mints established in the early 1900’s initially struck copper cash coins.

The specimen shown was lot 21044 in the Ponterio sale 165 (Hong Kong, April 2012), where it sold for $2032. The catalog description[1] noted, " CHINA. Chekiang. 10 Cash, ND (ca.1903-06). NGC MS-64. Choice and very original surfaces."
