Brandenburg-Bayreuth 1752 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 243 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €650 (about US$876 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN. Friedrich, 1735-1763. 1/6 Taler 1752, Bayreuth. Probe in Silber nach dem Leipziger Fuß; Mit geriffeltem Rand. Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 3910. RR Feine Tönung, fast vorzüglich. (margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, Frederick, 1735-63, one sixth thaler of 1752, Bayreuth mint, silver pattern with reeded edge. Rare, fine toning, about extremely fine.)"
The line lapsed in 1769 and the successors sold the provinces to Prussia in 1791, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization. This one year type has a very high catalog value for an obscure German minor.
