Ponterio sale 165, lot 21013

Anhwei was made a separate province in China in the 17th century. It consists primarily of agricultural land. The Anhwei mint began production in 1897, closed in 1899, and reopened again in 1902. Production was entirely of copper cash coins after 1902.

The specimen shown was lot 21013 in the Ponterio sale 165 (Hong Kong, April 2012), where it sold for $6752. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Anhwei. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), CD (1898). NGC XF Details--Scratches. Light scratches on obverse. Toned."
